Anyone know a fairly good way to do this yourself?
I'm exploring ideas of possibly making parts out of carbon fiber, see if I can get them to be lighter than the stock parts and still as strong - if not stronger. I've got a few companies that would be interested in doing it, and the big expense with them is them creating the molds, but at least one of them said they'd be willing to use customer provided molds, plus their work is CF all the way through, instead of just "sandwiching" regular fiberglass.
On the flip side of things, US Composites sells everything for laying CF, so if I get the molds made, I might see how terrible I am at working a piece myself first. Hell, might even try to turn it into a side business. I don't think the Fiero Fiberglass guys have options for making things out of CF (yet).
Also, I'd probably need someone with lots of Fieros/parts laying around to use to make the molds from... I can think of one person who I can probably borrow what's needed to do notchie stuff from, though that won't do me any good directly, maybe it can be sold to fund my build.
How close do you guys think I'd need to be in price to the fiberglass stuff that's out there before people would bite? I'm not even sure what kind of sales they're getting on their bigger pieces, but if they're running a business off of it, I imagine they can't be doing too badly?
Not looking to make this my primary income, so I can afford much lower margins.
