Hey guys,

Many of you know me from PFF. A few of us felt that having a more local site would be a good thing, something were we could discuss, trade, buy, help out, and setup meetings locally without it getting lost in the shuffle of the mammoth PFF site.

I bought my 86 Fiero from my (ex)-Brother-in-Law back in 2005. He had been big into Fieros in the early-90s till the early around 2001. At one point, he and my sister had at 4 of them (if memory serves). This was the only one he decided to do an engine swap on, which he originally was going to do himself, but found he didn't have the time, so had Archie do it, easy enough seeing as how he lived in Illinois at the time.

Everything on the car ran pretty well when I got it, there were some starting issues (which I now know were related to an improperly tuned carb), but it ran great and was a lot of fun with it's Muncie 4 speed. With the basic Suburban crate engine he had put in it, I was able to reliably get the car in the 13.5x range on the 1/4 mile track, with one-wheel-peel problems.

When my job relocated me from Raleigh to Greensboro, I drove the car from the old house to the new house... and along the way, the lower radiator port cracked at the base, and the engine overheated. After the new radiator was put in, it would still run, but was putting out some smoke - didn't know if it was oil or coolant, and drove it as little as possible, deciding it was time for a new engine.

Scott at LKN Speed in Mooresville took on the engine portion of it. A great guy who was a pleasure to work with, and actually saved me a ton of money on my build by taking the time to educate me on things I had picked for the build (before I even committed to having him do the work). In some cases, the parts I picked were beyond overkill, other times, I was buying parts that would already come with another component. Not all shops would have taken the time he did to go over everything.

The engine and some other work was handled by Vixen Cycle (which I think is now closed). That was a debacle, that I cover briefly in my build thread.
