'Allo everyone. New to NC Fieros, but not to the car or engine swaps. I'd like to put those two together sometime in the near future!
A bit about me:
I'm in North Garner/South Raleigh, kind of on the border between the two. Wake county, particularly. In any case, I have an '85 Fiero 2m4 that was my first car. Previous owner abused the hell out of it. $675 the day I bought it. Needed plugs, wires, injector, a tranny rebuild and brakes. I did all except the TH125 rebuild. (Auto transmissions are still a dark art to me. I know how they work in theory, but put one in front of me and I go blank.) Anyway - over the years, I've become attached to the car. It's still up in New York in storage at my parents' place. I moved down here in 2010 to escape the taxes, cost of living and political environment of Long Island.
Got a house that's got a decent garage. Decent enough job to support the hobby, saving up for parts, and I'm looking to execute my first engine swap in a Fiero. I've done a 3400 swap into a 3100-powered Monte Carlo in the past when the 3100's LIM and head gaskets both went and caused some serious issues. (Probably one of the easiest swaps to be had, so I dare say it wasn't much of an accomplishment.) Well, I'm looking to execute my next swap. Initially was going to be an LE5. At the time, it was costly and I couldn't afford it. Fast forward a few years, and the LSJ became a possibility. Then my welder decided to nope out on me, so cutting and welding a cradle isn't happening. Not to mention, while I can do an exhaust pretty well, I don't trust my welds to hold anything structural. So there went that idea. Then I started poking around at the LQ1. People over at PFF have convinced me otherwise, and I'm now, as a result, looking at a 3500 (non-VVT, non-drive-by-wire) to toss in the back behind an F23 manual. Doing research, trying to get everything planned and squared away before I start digging into things and spending cash.
So! Hey everyone. Name's Eddie. Nice to meet you all.
