Posted by Drew-py on 10/12/11So a friend has a shop and some welding skills and told me he is up for a challenge and asks if I would let him build a set of pipes for the Super P. Sure thing so here we go. If anybody wants it I can create a list of all parts the #'s, the where's and costs, a maker is up to you unless you want to bring it to my guy and expect on leaving it at least a week, but i will be there everyday over seeing the project both for your peace of mind and my car being used as template reference, these are one off creations. ITS COSTLY but well worth every penny plus a quarter or 2!!!!
rear header
in place full welded, short pipe to long pipe less than 2" diff
The Y-pipe
the Y collector was cut back all the way up to the last points where the circle remained with some slight angles for mating it to the round pipes at all 3 ends, it was a fun trick to do but we did it and never was there a repurchase needed because of an error. Measure twice, cut once and cut long just in case
my clearance around the slave is about an inch maybe more at its closest, watching it closely to see if I will need to heat shield it. So far it doesn't seem to soak up much heat, or develop a squishy pedal or leak, but how much can the rubber boot and internal seals take before they fail???? If some one knows please advise me, my plan is to shield it but where do I prioritize the necessity?
The front header
yes there is enough clearance to fire wall though it doesn't look like it its just enough. The short to long pipe on the front header is also less than a 2" diff. Between both banks the shortest to longest primary tubes are less than 4 inches, so they are not only close to equal length on each bank but near equal on all 6 pipes, although the back bank travels an extra 17" more in the Y (this is so open for a Teddy comment). Had to re-arrange cables, lines, wires and I will need custom created A/C lines. All part of the joys!!!
Front header full mock up
Y-pipe full mock up
headers and Y full welded start of cross pipe
Primaries are 1 5/8" (1.625) into a 3-1 2 1/2" collector, the Y-pipe is 2 1/2" each side and collects into a 3" outlet. Its a full 3" stock routing to the factory muffler location then splits back to 2-2 1/2's and exits where its supposed to. All done with cradle staying in the car, lifts are wonderful things. The measurements/fitments and angling was all done by eyeball. It was a build it yourself V-8 header kit that Chris suggested and he just cut and fit using the bends that it came with, he has no pipe bender or it would have been seamless headers
. The 3-1 collectors I found on line at
http://www.coneeng.com, they are $40 per. The flanges I got from
http://www.milzymotorsports.com these were $60 for the PAIR, they are exact recreations of factory ones, 3/8 thick steel, you can have them cut with or w/o the factory EGR port for no extra cost he just needs to know if you want it or not and what size the primaries are. Both companies were easy to work with. The Y-pipe is a standard one from Flowmaster, pick up a Summit Racing and there it is $40 bucks
